Jerónimo Antonio Gil, a Spanish artist who moved to Madrid with the intention of studying painting, and for the next three years he would dedicate himself to the study of drawing and modeling, together with Felipe Castro. Later on, he will continue to improve his skills, but already in Luis González Velázquez's workshop. During this time he tried to enter the Painting Division of the Royal Academy of San Fernando, without success, although he would get into the Engraving Division.Together with Tomás Francisco Prieto as his tutor, he would learn the secrets of the burin, becoming one of the best engravers in the Academy.

In October 1760 he was appointed a merit academic of Rotogravure. They would send him to Mexico with the idea of ??creating an engraving school in the Mexican Mint, founding a free school with scarce resources within a few months, until the provisional establishment of a drawing school in 1781, located in the mint. Due to his great intervention, he would occupy the position of general director and director of Rotogravure, until his death.
