Ricardo Franch was a Spanish artist from the Valencian Community. He was a disciple of Rafael Montesinos and a student at the Special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving. He stood out together with his fellow students Roselló and Navarrete, with whom he received an honourable mention at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1862, and in 1864 he won the third-class medal at the same competition, but on his own. The following year he was granted a pension to study at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, where he was commissioned by the San Fernando Academy to engrave some plates for the collection of ''Selected Pictures of the Royal Academy of San Fernando''. In Paris he became a member by competitive examination of the Imperial School of Engraving, where he won several prizes in 1866 and 1867. He was also awarded prizes at the London exhibition of 1871 and at the exhibitions of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Valencia in 1866 and 1867. In 1870 he was appointed engraver to the National Stamp Factory and in 1871 he was awarded the second medal at the National Exhibition. In 1873 he won the chair of engraving and drawing at the School of Fine Arts attached to the San Carlos Academy in Valencia.
