Blas Ametller was a Spanish artist educated at the Lotja school under the direction of Pasqual Pere Moles (Pascual Pedro Moles), and later at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 1790 where he would learn under the direction of Manuel Salvador Carmona the techniques plate engraving.
Three years later he would receive an award at said institution for his work in this technique, becoming Director of Engraving at the Royal Academy of San Fernando, as well as the King's Court Engraver. His mastery of etching and aquatint led him to interpret works by great artists such as Murillo, Velázquez, Goya and Ribera, among others.
