Bartolomé Maura y Montaner was a Spanish engraver and painter from the Balearic Islands. Descended on his mother's side from an important family of Mallorcan painters and engravers, he began his studies at the Provincial Academy of Fine Arts of the Balearic Islands and later moved to Madrid to continue his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.

He was one of the most awarded and recognized Spanish engravers of the late nineteenth century, obtained the honorable mention at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1864, was winner of the National Competition for the engraving of 'Las Lanzas' by Velázquez in 1872, was awarded the medal of art at the Universal Exhibition of Vienna of 1873 and at the Universal of Philadelphia of 1876, and the first medal of engraving at the National Exhibitions of 1876 and 1901. He was administrator of the National Calcography, Artistic Director of the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, Chief Engraver of the Bank of Spain and Numerary Member of the Royal Academy of San Fernando.

Excellent portrait engraver, he collaborated in the collection of Architectural Monuments of Spain, the Spanish Museum of Antiquities, the collection of selected paintings of the Royal Academy of San Fernando and The Etching Engraver. An active illustrator of books, his main dedication was the interpretation of painting, especially of the Spanish School.
