Rogelio de Egusquiza was a painter, engraver and sculptor from Cantabria, known for his friendship with the German composer Richard Wagner and his work spreading the Wagnerian theme in Madrid. The beginnings of his career are in Paris, where he lived and studied at the Imperial School of Fine Arts, later moved to Rome and worked in the workshop of Mariano Fortuny Marsal after his death, with artists of the stature of the brothers Raimundo and Ricardo Madrazo.

He then returned to Paris and travelled throughout Europe, meeting Wagner in Munich after listening to his play The Ring of the Nibelung, being deeply marked by Wagnerian aesthetics. He was one of only two Spaniards to collaborate with the important German romantic magazine Bayereuther Blätter, exhibited in the Halls of Rosicrucian on four occasions and at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 held in Paris, where he also received the silver medal and the Legion d'Honour from the French government. In his numerous trips to Madrid he spread Wagnerism in the capital being an Honorary Member of the Wagnerian Association of Madrid, to which he donated numerous works. He died in Madrid in 1915, where he had moved due to World War I.

His works are preserved mainly in the Prado National Museum and to a lesser extent in the National Library of Spain, in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Santander and Cantabria, in the British Museum and in the National Calcography
