Joan Hernández Pijuan was a Spanish artist from Catalonia. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona and the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi, continuing them at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he learned the technique of engraving. From 1977 the artist combined his creative work with his teaching work, first as a professor at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi and later at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona, first as a Professor and then as Dean.

He exhibited in museums throughout Europe, and his work can now be found in the collections of museums and galleries around the world, such as the Museo nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires, the Malborough Gallery in London or the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He was widely awarded throughout his career, achieving awards such as the Prize of the General Direction of Fine Arts, the Prize of the I International Biennial of Engraving of Krakow, the National Prize of Plastic Arts, the Cross of Sant Jordi or the National Prize of Graphic Art, among others.
