Juan Galea Barjola was a Spanish artist belonging to the current of expressionism and considered one of the most important artists of the second half of the 20th century. He studied at the Badajoz School of Arts and Crafts, and at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts. Master of lithography and painting, his work can be found in museums throughout the national territory such as the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, the Asturias Museum of Fine Arts or the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, and international museums such as the Museum of Solidarity in Chile.

An artist of great importance for Spanish art, he received various decorations such as the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1985, the National Drawing Prize in 1968 or the Eugenio d'Ors Gold Medal in 1963. Most of his work is preserved in the museum dedicated to him: The Juan Barjola Museum in Gijón.
