Modest Cuixart i Tàpies was a Spanish painter, considered one of the most important in the Spanish Postwar Period. Trained as a painter at the Lliure Academy of Painting of Barcelona, ??after finishing his studies participated in the founding of the artistic avant-garde group Dau el set, with renowed artists as Antoni Tàpies and Arnau Puig, regarded as one of the first references of the Spanish artistic vanguard of postwar before the onset of the El Paso Group. He supplemented his studies in Paris thanks to a grant from the French Institute, from where he traveled throughout Europe before moving to Lyon and then returning to Spain.

Throughout his career he was part of the ephemeral Taüll group and exhibited his work in cities like Paris, Madrid, São Paulo, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Basel, Gerona, Barcelona or Milan; in exhibitions as important as the Venice Biennale, the Carnegie Biennial in Pitsburg or Documenta in Kassel; museums and size of the Guggenheim in New York, the Tate Gallery in London or the Smithsonian Museum in Washington. Also he was awarded the Gold Medal to the Merit in Fine Arts, the St. George Cross and the Cross of Isabel the Catholic, among others.

Currently the foundation that bears his name, Fundación Cuixart, promotes knowledge and free thought making use of the intelligentsia and the magnificent paintings of this artist.
