Esteban Buxó was an artist of great importance thanks to his excellence in the art of engraving, despite the scant information we have about his life. He began his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in his native city, Barcelona, and was linked to the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. 

Throughout the 1860s, he took part in numerous exhibitions, as a result of which he won several medals and honourable mentions for his work.

This etching shows a very popular section of the Alhambra in Granada, the pavilion of the Court of the Lions. This court is surrounded by porticoes on all four sides, with two advanced pavilions on its shorter sides. In the centre of this transept is the fountain with the twelve white marble lions and the bowl of the fountain itself decorated with the verses of the poet Ibn Zamrak. One of the curiosities of this image is the type of column, with a very thin cylindrical shaft and decorated with rings at the top, with a capital divided into two bodies with ataurique decoration, representing elements typical of the Alhambra.
