Manuel Albuerne was a native Spanish engraver from La Rioja. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and the first recognized engraving of him is dated 1782, when the artist was only 18 years old. The best-known works of him began to be produced eight years later in 1790.

His work is of varied themes, ranging from religious engravings to illustrations of illustrated scientific publications, passing through representations of literary works. He participated in all the important engraving enterprises that occurred in the first quarter of the 19th century, thanks to his technical prowess in the art of engraving and drawing.
