Print belonging to the second Spanish edition of the book by Louis-Charles Mercier Dupaty de Clam: Riding practices or The art of horseback riding, a book commented on and annotated by Charles IV himself and Manuel Godoy, who commissioned the translation from French to Francisco Cerdá y Rico in 1796. In addition to the translation, Cerdá intended to include additions to two other important riding treatises in order to create the most complete one.

The project was accepted by Manuel Godoy and it was decided to publish in two editions: I. The Royal Riding House of Carlos IV and II. Riding Primer. These editions would be illustrated by magnificent engravings drawn by Antonio Carnicero and Cosme Acuña, and printed by the Royal Printing House. For this second edition some thirty prints were calculated, but only five were created due to the economic difficulties of the Royal Printing House.
