Quantity

Ismael Smith Marí was a Spanish-American engraver from Catalonia. Trained at the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona and the Baixas Academy, in 1910 he obtained a scholarship from the City Council of Barcelona to continue his studies at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. Due to the outbreak of the First World War, he returned to Catalonia where he made numerous sculptural portraits of important personalities, participated in the foundation of the association Leas Arts i els Artistes, collaborated with important magazines and publications of the time such as Mercurio or La Ilustració Catalana, in addition to making fashion designs and numerous ex libris.

He traveled and exhibited in Europe and America, mainly in England and the United States, settling in New York in 1918, where he enjoyed a time of great prosperity and resided until his death. His work can be found in the Library of Catalonia, in the National Chalcography and in the British Museum mainly.
