The Military State of Spain and the Indies was a publication with basic information for the knowledge of the organizational structures of the Spanish army and navy of the old regime and its evolution towards those of the new liberal State that began to be constituted since 1812. This publication will later be continued by Anuario militar de España, published between 1890 and 1936. It was published annually, it was published in conjunction with the Manual Calendar and Guide of Outsiders from 1768 to 1837, and from this year until 1863, only with the Guide of outsiders of Madrid. It began to be stamped, like the Calendar and, later, the Guide, first with royal privilege, by Antonio Sanz, printer of the king and his council, and then in the Royal Printing House of the Gazeta and in the Royal and National Printing Press.
