Bonifacio Alfonso Gómez, better known as Bonifacio Alfonso, was a Spanish painter and engraver from the Basque Country. He began his artistic career in 1955, the year in which he obtained his first prize for painting in his hometown which encouraged him to enter the School of Arts and Crafts, in 1958 he held his first solo exhibition at the Ateneo de Guipúzcoa and after a short stay in Paris where he interacted with the artists of the El Paso Group, moves to Cuenca where the hand of Antonio Lorenzo begins in the art of Engraving.

Later he worked in various trades until he took up residence in Madrid in 1968 and was commissioned to design twenty-six stained glass windows for the Cathedral of Cuenca, together with Gerardo Rueda and Gustavo Torner. After more than thirty original editions and exhibitions in several European countries, his work is worthy of the National Prize for Engraving in 1993 and the Prize of the Arts of the Community of Madrid in 2005. His works are part of the collections of renowned museums such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao, the Joan March Foundation or the British Museum in London.
