Manuel Salvador Carmona was a Spanish engraver belonging to an important family of artists. He initially trained in Madrid with his uncle, the Chamber Sculptor and Deputy Director of Sculpture of the Academy, Luis Salvador Carmona at the Royal Academy of San Fernando. He was one of the first pensioners of the institution to study in Paris, where he learned the technique of the burin with Dupuis, going so far as to present several engravings to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture of Paris that earned him his entry into it unanimously in 1759.

It was in the French capital where the artist triumphed as an engraver and achieved great prestige, later moving to Madrid in 1762, and receiving two years later the title of Academician of Merit of the Royal Academy of San Fernando and later the title of Director of Engraving of the same institution. After a brief stay in Rome, he was appointed Engraver of the King's Chamber in 1783, academician of merit by the Royal Academy of Nobles and Fine Arts of San Luis de Zaragoza in 1796, by that of San Carlos de Valencia in 1815 and by that of San Lucas de Roma in 1818. He achieved enormous prestige in life thanks to his mastery in the handling of the burin and preparatory drawing, was a teacher of engravers of great importance such as Luis Fernández Noseret or Blas Ametller, and is considered one of the best engravers of his time.
