Manuel Esquivel, Spanish intaglio engraver, began his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, awarded a scholarship for several years to learn the technique of the Intaglio by Francisco Muntaner.

He was awarded by the Royal Academy for his works submitted to diferent competitions and collaborated in numerous large-scale projects at the time, such as the collections of Portraits of Illustrious Spaniards or the Company for the engraving of royal palaces. Also he lived nearly twenty years in Florence, where he worked with the italian engraver Raffaello Sanzio Morghen, returning to Madrid in 1829, at which time he was appointed academician of merit at the Royal Academy of San Fernando.
