José Gómez de Navia was a Spanish engraver from Segovia, noted for his skill and magnificent quality of his drawings. He began his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando with Manuel Salvador Carmona. Assiduous collaborator of the scientific and devout works published by the Royal Printing House and by other Madrid printing houses, were his work to the drawings of the Collection of different views of the Magnificent Temple and Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial [...] . The collection liked King Carlos IV so much, it earned him the commission to draw to engrave the views of the Real Sitio de Aranjuez, a company that ended up being made by Tomás López Enguídanos and Manuel Alegre, due to the health problems of Navia himself.

The success of his work before the kings was such that, in addition to Aranjuez's commission, he was commissioned to draw the views of other Royal Sites and representative buildings of Madrid, later engraved by Manuel Alegre, Esteban Boix and Alonso García Sanz.
