Cayetano de Vargas Machuca was a Spanish artist belonging to a relevant family of Toledo artists. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, being awarded by the institution with twenty-four years in its General Competition, in the engraving section. His work focused mainly on the engraving of pictures of devotion, reproducing religious images, highlighting his continuation of the work done by Juan Fernando Palomino having plates of saints little known or of uncommon representation. He was friends with the painter Vicente López, and a painting of the same portraying the wife of the engraver is preserved.
