José Acevedo was a Spanish artist born in Castropol, Asturias. We know little about his biography, but we do know that he studied at the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, took part in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1860, was a member of the Society for the Protection of Fine Arts and participated as an illustrator of several important series of the time, such as Architectural Monuments of Spain and Antonio Rotondo's History of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo, commonly known as the Escorial.

In this engraving we can see The Palace of the Dukes of Alcalá, also known as Casa de Pilatos. It is one of the most emblematic buildings in Seville and represents one of the oldest noble families, the Medinaceli family. It is one of the best examples of a palace-dwelling in Seville, with a clear Mudejar inspiration, where arches and decorations can be seen, as well as its structure that revolves around an interior porticoed courtyard with a fountain, to generate freshness.
