Federico Kraus was a German engraver who developed most of his work in Spain. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Frankfurt, later expanding his studies in Berlin, Paris and Rome. He finally settled in Madrid obtaining the title of engraver of the Royal Academy of History.

He participated in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts on four occasions, being awarded in the editions of 1864 and 1867. He participated in the realization of the series of Architectural Monuments of Spain, the most ambitious and important engraving company of the moment in Spain. He returned to Germany before 1885, when he was elected a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts, remaining there until his death.
