José Camarón y Meliá was a Spanish painter and printmaker. He began his studies at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts to continue them in Rome thanks to a pension. Upon his return in 1786 he was appointed chamber painter and academic of merit of the Academia de San Carlos, in 1797 lieutenant director of painting of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, in 1800 director of the Royal Porcelain Factory, in 1816 Honorary director of the Academy of San Fernando and rector of the School of Drawing of La Merced in 1819.
