José Joaquín Fabregat was a Spanish draughtsman and engraver based in New Spain (Mexico). He began his studies at the Academy of San Carlos, in 1772 he was awarded the prize for engraving of the Academy of San Fernando, two years later he received the position of Supernumerary Academician of the same, and in 1781 he was awarded the prize of merit by the Academy of San Carlos.

He moved to the Mexican colony after being appointed Director of engraving at the Academy of San Carlos de la Nueva España, a position he held until his death. Fabregat engraved for some of the most recognized printing presses of the time: that of Antonio Sancha, that of Joaquín Ibarra, that of the Royal Printing House, or that of Benito Monfort.
